Grace Daniels Reynolds, 101, of Covington, passed away Saturday, October 21, 2023, at the Brian Center Rehabilitation & Nursing Home in Low Moor.


Mrs. Reynolds was born February 24, 1922, in Buckingham County, a daughter of the late Walter I. Daniels and Mary Estelle Megginson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her husband, Vernell Reynolds in 2008; a grandson, Derrick Belton; two sisters and one brother.


Grace was an active member of the Historic First Baptist Church in Covington until her health began to fail. She cherished praising the word and loved working in the church, serving on several committees. Grace loved to read her bible, praying for and with others, but most of all, spending time with family. She was a loving, caring woman and a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.

Charles William King, Sr., 86, of Covington, died Saturday, October 21, 2023, at LewisGale-Alleghany hospital in Low Moor.


Mr. King was born on November 17, 1936, in Washington D.C., a son of the late Murrill and Frances King Campbell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jilleen Downey King; a daughter, Deborah King; and a sister, Mary Harlow.


Charles was employed as a crane operator in the woodyard at Westrock for 43 years. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church where he was active with the local Men of Mission. He was also a member of the Ruritan. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching western movies, gardening, hunting, and fishing.

Entered into rest on October 19th, 2023 Charles Edward Parrish.

Ed was born December 10th, 1947 in St. Albans, West Virginia to parents Paul and Mary Wells Parrish. He was a 1965 graduate of Piketon High School in Piketon, Ohio. After high school, Ed enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. Following his honorable discharge, he called several places home including Oak Ridge, TN, Emporia, KS, Augusta, GA, and Covington, VA.

While living in Augusta, Ed owned and operated Cherokee Fishing, out of the former Mike’s Marina on Clarks Hill Lake. His Sunday cookouts fed many Department of Natural Resources Officers and Columbia County Deputies.  His love for the lake was only surpassed by his love of telling stories. If you heard one of Ed’s stories, it likely wasn’t for the first time. For the past thirty years Ed did his cooking and storytelling in Covington.

Palmer Pleasant “Junior” Persinger, Jr., 59, of Covington, died Sunday, October 8, 2023 at his residence.


Junior was born on June 6, 1964, a son of the late Palmer P. Persinger, Sr. and Janice Fridley Persinger.


Mr. Persinger was a carpenter for Commonwealth Contracting for many years. While he was dedicated to his profession, he also loved spending time with his family, most notably his grandbabies, and enjoyed camping and family vacations to the beach. He was a member of Highland Chapel Christian Church.

Robert Wayne “Bobby” Byer, Jr., 59, of Covington, died Friday, October 6, 2023 at LewisGale Medical Center in Salem.


Mr. Byer was born April 26, 1964, in Alleghany County, a son of the late Robert W. Byer, Sr. and Arletta Tingler Griffith.


Bobby was employed as a truck driver for Team Carriers, Inc. for many years. He loved hunting and being outdoors and was a well-known car and truck enthusiast. He attended Cliffdale Christian Church.

Marshall Wayne Jeter, age 70, of Covington, died October 6, 2023, at his residence.


Mr. Jeter was born June 5, 1953, in Covington, a son of the late Armistead and Doris Chapman Jeter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded by two sisters, Gloria Jeter, and Brenda Brown: 5 brothers, Curtis Jeter, Armistead Jeter, Jr., David Jeter, Roderick Jeter, and Stacey Jeter; two nephews, Carlos Jeter and Ricardo (Ricky) Jeter.


Marshall was employed as a 1st operator at Ingevity for many years. He was a member of Pine Street Baptist Church, and an avid Pittsburg Steelers Fan. He loved and adored his family.

Bonnie Lee (Amos) Griffith, 82, of Kanawha Trail died Thursday October 5, 2023. Mrs. Griffith was born July 24, 1941, in Rock Camp, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Lewis Claude Amos Sr. and the late Mildred Lucille (Pyne) Amos. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years Harold Ephraim Griffith, a brother Lewis Amos Jr. and a sister Gay Howard. She retired from The Greenbrier Clinic in White Sulphur Springs after 34 years. She was a member of Calvary Christian Church in Covington. Family meant the world to Bonnie, and her three grandsons were the center of her world. Nothing would light her face up like the sound or sight of Christopher, Erik or Mason. She was so proud of all three of them. They would never leave her house hungry or without lots of hugs. In the neighborhood, Bonnie was well known for tirelessly working to keep the lawn looking spectacular. Angela Dawn Graham Tucker, 49, of Lewisburg and formerly of Covington, died Wednesday, October 4, 2023.


Angela was born August 11, 1974, in Alleghany County, a daughter of Eloise Graham Webb Kriby. She was preceded in death by her fathers, Stephen Wayne Cooper and William “Billy” Webb, Jr; her mother-in-law, Rowena Tucker; and her son-in-law, Jasper Crawley, Jr.

Angie was the kindest person. She would give someone her last dollar or the shirt off her back if they needed it and she loved her kids and grandchildren more than anything. She always did her best to make sure they were all taken care of - a smile on her babies’ face was a smile on hers.

Darel (Wolfie) Gene Wolfe, age 63, of Covington, died Sunday, October 1, 2023, at his residence.


Darel was born, December 17, 1959, in Alleghany County, a son of the late Stanford J. and Mary Lockhart Wolfe. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by one brother, Jay Wolfe.


Darel was employed as a Team Leader at WestRock. In his spare was an avid outdoorsman and loved sharing quality time with his family.


Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 40 years, Sherry Hicks Wolfe of Covington; one son, Derrick Wolfe (Kayla Bess) of Covington; one daughter, Jeannie (Alan) Adkins of Covington; Kelly (Crist) Johnson of Covington; grandchildren, Shanna Adkins, Ashlynn Wolfe, Crista, Mayken and Boyd Johnson of Covington.

Ricardo Pierre (Ricky) Holloway, Sr., 64, of Roanoke, Va transitioned on October 1, 2023, following his battle with dementia.


Ricky was born May 6, 1959, in Clifton Forge, Va to Jean Holloway Godfrey and Joe Louis Smith. Ricky attended primary schools in Covington, Va, and graduated from Covington High School in 1977. Ricky attended Ferrum (Jr.) College. He was also a proud U.S. Army veteran.


Ricky is preceded in death by his mother, Jean Holloway Godfrey, and father, Joe Louis Smith. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Cynthia Holloway (Roanoke, Va). He leaves behind his sons Brian (Debra) Holloway (Fredericksburg, Va), Kevin (Lettisha) Holloway (Gainesville, Va), and Ricardo (Elly) Holloway, Jr. (Covington, Va). Jack Edward Oden, Jr., 64, of Covington, died Tuesday, September 26, 2023 at his residence.


Jack was born October 6, 1958, in Olney, MD., a son of the late Jack E. Oden, Sr., and Peggy Carter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Randy McCarthy and Eddie Oden; special aunt and uncle, Shirley and Ralph Carter; and a nephew, Jerry Oden.


Mr. Oden was a professional painter by trade and worked with various companies throughout his life. He was a member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church. He was a lifelong Miami Dolphins and NASCAR fan. He was a family-oriented man, and especially enjoyed being with his grandchildren.
