Carolyn Clark Rice, 76, of 524 W. Jackson St, died, Tuesday November 23, 2021, at her residence. She was born May 1, 1945, in Covington, the daughter of late Betty Clark Sparks and Timothy Joseph Sparks, other than her parents she preceded in death by a sister Wanda Ann Sparks. Carolyn had worked at WAVVA convenience store in Chester, VA. Surviving are three daughters Teresa Rose and her husband Dale of Dispunta, Susie Altman and her husband Brad of Prince George, and JoAnn Davis and her husband Glenn of Clifton Forge; one son John Hutheson and his wife April of Covington; ten grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; four brothers Elmer ‘Buck' Sparks of Covington, Timothy H. Sparks of Eagle Rock, John A. Sparks and wife Joni of Monroe, and Joey W. Carolyn Price Robinson, 77, formerly of Covington, of Summersville, SC., died, Tuesday November 23, 2021. Mrs. Robinson was born August 18, 1944, in Covington a daughter of Lacy E. Price and Violet Mays Price Ford. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother Charles Price. She was a Co-Owner of American Document Services. Surviving are her husband of 57 years David Marion Robinson of Summersville, SC.; a niece Debbie Booze and husband Henry of Fincastle; two brothers Ralph Price and wife Betty of Covington and David Price of Jacksonville, FL., also surviving are nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held on Sunday November 28. 2021 at 2:00 PM in Arritt Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Hartsfield officiating. Nellie Burns Miller, 92, formerly of 1116 Rockbridge Ave., Covington died, Tuesday November 16, 2021, in Virginia Beach. Mrs. Miller was born December 22, 1928, in Bolar a daughter of the late William Arnold and Rue Ava Jackson Burns. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband George Lewis Miller in 2005; two sisters Mona McElwee and Wilma Lipscomb; one brother Billy Burns; and a son in law Larry Magaddino. She was a homemaker and was a member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church. Marvin Lewis Hooker, Sr., 86, of 531 Bird Farm Rd., died, Tuesday November 16, 2021, at the Brian Center in Low Moor. Mr. Hooker was born March 15, 1935, in Hot Springs, a son of the late Herbert Lee and Rosa Landrum Hooker. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Celia Kimberlin Hooker in 2008 and three brothers. He served his country in the United States Navy and was a carpet installer for Alleghany Tile and Carpet and for Don's Floor Service. He was an avid bowler, fisherman, enjoyed old westerns and the Washington Redskins and was involved in CB Radios a long time ago. In keeping with his wishes his body has been cremated. Charles Edwards Moorman, 56, of Covington, died, Monday November 15, 2021, at Bon Secours St. Mary Hospital in Richmond. Mr. Moorman was born November 29, 1964, in Washington D.C. a son of the late Calvin and Katherine Dement Moorman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter Abby Moody; three sisters Audrey Moorman, Elizabeth Willett, and Kathern Staehly; and a brother. He was a truck driver for Alleghany County and director of security for easy riders' events. James Robert Simpson, 94, of Covington, died Saturday, November 13, 2021, at his residence. Mr. Simpson was born May 17, 1927, in Alleghany County, a son of the late Grover Simpson, Sr. and Irene Sartain Simpson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Grover Simpson, Jr. and his wife Barbara; a sister and brother-in-law, Catherine Clements and husband Roy. James retired from the former Hercules, Inc. in Covington and worked for CFW Phone Co. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II, serving in the European theater. He was a charter member of Calvary Christian Church Disciples of Christ, were he served as Elder, Chairman of the board, Sunday school teacher, and youth leader. He was active in the Boy Scouts, serving as scout leader for many years. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Shirley was born September 7, 1943 in Alleghany County, a daughter of the late James Wesley "JW" McAllister and Mazie C. Brackman McAllister. She was retired from Walmart. She had attended Faith Baptist Church. Shirley enjoyed spending time with her family, camping, bowling, and sleeping. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Joe Bowyer, Sr., and her son, Raymond Joe Bowyer, Jr., and Danny Paxton. Donna Linton Clarkson 70, of Paint Bank, passed away Tuesday, November 2, 2021, at her residence. She was born on March 12, 1951, in Craig County, a daughter of late Vernon G. and Fleda Vaught Linton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Curtis Linton in 2018; and two sisters, Hazel Hinton in 1997 and Alma Akers in 2020. Donna worked at the Paint Bank Post Office for number of years as OIC. She was a lifetime member of the Paint Bank United Methodist Church and charter member of the Paint Bank Fire and Rescue Ladies Auxillary. Surviving are her husband of 48 years, Roger L. Shirley Hostetter Ferris, 88, of 614 N. Augusta Ave., died, Monday November 1, 2021, at Lewis Gale Alleghany Regional Hospital. Mrs. Ferris was born May 21, 1933, in Covington a daughter of the late Samuel and Mary Adelaide Callahan Hostetter. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Russell W. Ferris in 2005; one sister; and one brother. She retired in 2012 after 30 years as the owner and operator of Shirley's Ceramics. She was a member of McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church. In keeping with her wishes her body has been cremated. Mr. Botkin was born September 27, 1968, in Alleghany County a son of the late Cletus "Buddy" and Gail Ford Botkin. He was the former manager of KFC for 20 years and he loved to do woodworking.
