Butch Crizer
Raymond "Butch" Crizer, 78, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 7, 2021. He passed away peacefully at home with his devoted wife of 59 years, Wanda, by his side. Mr. Crizer was born April 14, 1943, in Alleghany County a son of the late Raymond Lee and Juanita Hoff Crizer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Thelka Malashevich, a half-sister, Peggy Paxton, two half-brothers Ernie and Dudley Grimes. He attended Christ United Methodist Church. Butch retired from Westvaco after 43 years of service and went on to live a very happy, fulfilling life. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, gardening, cooking, and traveling making wonderful memories for all who were blessed to know him. Anyone who knew Butch knows that he was the most loving, selfless, enjoyable, fun PawPaw, daddy, and husband a family could ask for and a most loyal friend. Joann Spinner Barber, 67, of 816 S. Alleghany Ave., died, Wednesday October 6, 2021, at Lewis Gale Alleghany Regional in Low Moor. Mrs. Barber was born on July 25, 1954, in Clifton Forge, VA a daughter of the late John and Eloise Green Spinner. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister Shirley Spinner and a brother John Spinner Jr. She was a housekeeper at Lewis Gale Alleghany Regional Hospital. Ricky Lee Hartman, 63, of Callaghan died peacefully at his home on Wednesday, October 6, 2021. Rick was born March 13, 1958 and was adopted as an infant by his parents, the late Bill and Daisy Hartman. He grew up and spent his entire life in the Callaghan area where he attended Callaghan schools taking part in mischief as much as possible. After graduating from high school, Rick enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country as a Sergeant with Company B 23rd Battalion 503 Division Infantry of the 101st Airborne for a tour of duty stationed at Camp Casey, Korea. After returning to the states following his military service, Rick found employment with Alleghany County Schools' maintenance department where he spent the last 40 years serving the students and faculty as the head custodian at Callaghan Elementary School making many memories with no less than three generations of Callaghan kids. Sidney Lee Spellman, 95, of 1801 Midland Trail, died, Wednesday October 6, 2021, at Lewis Gale Alleghany Regional Hospital in Low Moor. Mr. Spellman was born June 25, 1926, in Alleghany County a son of the late Joseph Edward and Sudie McCullough Spellman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth Padgett Spellman, a daughter and son in law Carol Ann and Melvin Fleshman, three sisters Mildred, Lucille, and Shirley, and four brothers Carl, Glenn, Dennis, and Jack. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He had retired from Westrock from the waste treatment plant. He was a mechanic in the army and continued to enjoy it after his service as well as being a wonderful electrician, carpenter, and a jack of all trades. Sandra Ardelia "Saun" Hunter, 53 of 345 E. Prospect St. passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 5, 2021, in Lewis - Gale Alleghany Regional Hospital, Low Moor. She was born July 8, 1968, in Covington she was the daughter of Ruby Hunter Lewis of Covington. She was preceded in death by a daughter Tanyell P. Hunter and grandson Ki'ari Wright. Saun loved to travel and being with her loved ones. Tanyell Pandora "Tani" Hunter 33, of 341 E. Prospect St, passed away peacefully on Sunday October 3, 2021, at her residence. She was born September 25, 1988, in Covington. She was the daughter of the late Keith Laws and Sandra Ardelia Hunter, other than her parents she is preceded in death by a son Ki'ari Wright and nephew Jacob Bryant. Tani worked at America-Care Plus and was considered to everyone and loved being with her family and friends, she would be the life of the party. Winifred June Stone Scott Fridley, 96, went to be with her Lord September 29, 2021, at her residence. Mrs. Fridley was born June 7, 1925, a daughter of the late Lonza and Rayma Tucker Stone. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, R. Russell Scott; her second husband, Berland A. Fridley; one sister, Sarah Brumfield; and two brothers, Marvin Stone and Bob "Doc" Stone. June retired from Dawn Warehousing as an administrative assistant. She attended Grace Brethren Church and Faith Baptist Churches. She was a graduate of Covington High School and attended Emanuel College in Franklin Springs, GA. Following school, she worked in the woodyard office at WestRock during World War II, joining millions of women in filling positions left vacant during the war. June loved her family and took great interest in her Irish heritage, studying the genealogy of the Stone and Scott families and passing that on to future generations. Mrs. Miller was born July 7, 1959, in Richmond a daughter of the late Herbert L. and Mary Louise Anderson Blakley. She was an employee of A & B Bakery and loved to shop, play Bingo and be on Facebook. Surviving are her Husband of 47 years, Steven Miller; of Covington; two Daughters, Crystal Miller and Kayla Smith and her husband, Ryan, all of Covington; six grandchildren, Noah Hall, Isaiah Butler, Elizabeth Butler, Heidi Smith, Bentley Lewis and Branson Smith; two Brothers, Pete Blakley, of Richmond and Randy Blakeley and his wife, Doreen, of Wilmington, NC, and several nieces and nephews including a special niece, Melissa Swoope, and her husband Jeffrey of Clifton Forge. C. a son of Alverda Mae Sneath Shultzaberger of Front Royal and the late Charles Edward Shultzaberger. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his beloved girlfriend Phyllis Stull Cook. He was a survey instrument repairman for the Sesco Company in Fairfax.
