Copeland

Jill Copeland Moersh, 89, of Covington, Virginia passed away peacefully at home on June 28, 2021. She was born December 10, 1931 in New York City, the daughter of the late Arthur Benjamin Copeland and Helen Friedlander Copeland. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband James "Jim" Farner Moersh and a son-in-law Bobby A. Dean. At a very young age, Jill moved to Cedarhurst, Long Island, NY, where she was a longtime resident. She graduated from Lawrence High School in Cedarhurst, NY in 1949 and earned a Bachelors of Science Degree in Teaching from Oswego College, Oswego NY in 1952. She met her husband Jim while he was working as Activities Secretary at the Five Towns YMCA in Lawrence, NY. They were married in 1954 and celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary prior to Jim's passing in January of 2011. Jill was a long time teacher who touched the lives of the many students she taught. Dana Randolph Humphreys 82, of Big Ridge, Covington, Virginia died Sunday, June 27, 2021 at Carillion Roanoke Memorial. He was born May 31, 1939 in Alleghany County Virginia the son of the late Henry Madison and Estelle Smith Humphreys. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Roy Daryl Humphreys. Dana drove a bus his senior year at Dunlap High School where he graduated in 1958, started cutting pulpwood as a teenager and retired from Westvaco after 36 years of service and during those years worked as a Foreman on 5, 6 and 7 paper machines. He was a member of First Christian Church where he served as a Deacon. He also served as a Trustee and Treasurer at Antioch Christian Church on Big Ridge Mountain. Dana was always busy planting garden, visiting with people as he sold corn and beans from the tailgate of his truck, and was a NASCAR and Green Bay Packers fan. Theresa Fridley Martin, 67, of 116 Fort Apache Dr., died, Saturday June 26, 2021, at her residence. Mrs. Martin was born October 30, 1953, in Covington, a daughter of the late Kenneth and Alma Frances Usery Fridley. She retired in 2019 after 33 years of service with the Covington Police Department as a dispatcher. She was a member of McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church, and she loved spending time with her grandchildren. Mrs. Cobbs was born November 9, 1929, in Bath County a daughter of the Late Grant and Mary Ethel Smith Nelson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd Cobbs Sr, two sisters, and one brother. She worked at the A&P Grocery store as a meat cutter and cashier. Charles Robert "Bobby" O'Conner, 56, of 7826 Ogles Creek Rd., died, Sunday, June 20, 2021, at Lewis Gale Alleghany Regional Hospital in Low Moor. Mr. O'Conner was born April 30, 1965, in Alleghany County a son of the late Charles Burton and Marie Graham O'Conner. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Wilbur L. O'Conner, in 1978. He was a former employ of Hammond- Mitchell and was an avid outdoorsman and loved shooting guns. He also enjoyed gardening, music, and the Dallas Cowboys. Mrs. Anderson was born April 6, 1940, in Covington, a daughter of the late Robert Earl and Nanny Austin Wright. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Lenwood Anderson in 2016, two infant children Rhonda and Craig Anderson, and two sisters Virginia "Boots" Wright and Ester Prince. She was the first lady patrolman for the City of Covington. She was a member of the former Trinity Baptist Church. In addition to working for the city she worked at the former Brown's Music Store and was a homemaker, she loved her pets and feeding the wildlife around her home.
