Vittorio Giuseppe "Victor" Cucci 68, Of 2319 Dressler Drive died Thursday night, May 13, 2021, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke. Victor was born July 9, 1952, in Carini, Sicily, a son of the late Giuseppe and Angelina Taormina Cucci. Before coming to the United States, Victor served two years in the Italian Army. He came to Covington with his wife in 1977 and opened Cucci's Pizzeria restaurant. He enjoyed spending time with his family and having them involved in the restaurant. He was proud to be a member of this community. Surviving are his Wife of 44 years, Janet Henry Cucci, of Covington; two Sons, Giuseppe Cucci and Emily Dimon and Marco and Kathy Cucci, all of Covington; four grandchildren, Vittorio "Gage" Cucci, Vivian A. Gary Wayne Jennings, 71, of Clifton Forge, died Sunday, May 2, 2021, in Lewis -Gale Medical Center at Salem. Mr. Jennings was born June 10, 1949, in Alleghany County, the son of the late Meredith Jennings, Sr. and Betty Arrington Jennings Fitzgerald. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Dawn W. Rickett and a brother, Meredith "Bugs" Jennings, Jr. Gary served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. Gary worked at Jennings and Webb Trucking Co. as truck driver. Surviving his wife, Pat Martin Jennings, of Clifton Forge, a daughter, Michelle Shamblin, of Selma, a stepson, David A. Williams, of Covington, a stepdaughter, Kim Ambsuley, of West Palm Beach, Fl., two brothers, Timothy Jennings and Julie Leonard of Ash NC. and William Jennings of Covington; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Johnny Lee Meadows, 37, of Roanoke, formerly of Covington, died April 30, 2021. Mr. Meadows was born May 26, 1984, in Alleghany County the son of Rhonda Meadows Paxton of Covington. He was preceded in death by his grandfather Alfred Paxton and his maternal grandparents Jerry L. Meadows Sr. and Zetta Martin. Pullin Jr. and Robert T. Pullin; one sister, Carol Pullin Kern; a special uncle, Arnold Pullin; and his stepfather, Conway Carpenter. Mr. Pullin was a retired machinist at Westvaco and formerly at Hercules, Inc., in Research Triangle Park, NC. He also was a member of the Boiling Springs Fire and Rescue Department. Having served as Captain of the rescue squad and Vice President of the Local 675, Covington Papermakers Union. He was an avid hunter as well as a hunter safety instructor. Gilbert Franklin (Pat) Malone, 74, of Covington, died, April 22, 2021. Mr. Malone was born March 22, 1947 in Waynesboro a son of the late William Robert and Pearl Hite Malone. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Ramona Arden (Nikki) Malone and daughter Emilee Arden Malone. He worked for Shoney's for 25 years/retired as an Assistant Director of Loss Prevention. Justin "Bo" Eugene Shinault, 51, of 510 N. Greenbrier Ave., died, Monday April 5, 2021 at his residence. He was born June 28, 1969 in Covington, the son of Gloria Jean Chittum Shinault of Covington and the late Donald F. Shinault, Sr. Mr. Shinault worked at WestRock in the # 1&2 loading department, he was avid outdoorsman, loved playing baseball and softball and loved his beloved Tarheels. Justin enjoyed spending time with his children and taking care of his mother. In addition to his mother, he is survived by a daughter Kassity Howard and her husband Andrew of North Carolina, one son Jason Shinault of Roanoke, two brothers Donald F. Edith Toombs Pettitt, 94, of Covington died Monday, March 29, 2021,at the Brain Center Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Low Moor.
She was born January 2, 1927, in Covington a daughter of the late Charles K. Toombs and Edith Beatrice Fridley Toombs. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Calvin Jerman, and her husband, Leonard Pettitt, one son, Paul Jerman and one daughter, Kathleen Walker.
Mrs. Pettitt had retired from the H.O. Canfield Co. as an inspector. She was also member of the Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church.
Surviving are four daughters, Clara Copland Hanna and her husband, Joe, Karen Williams, Beverly Baker and her husband, Richard, all of Covington and Sharon Broughman and her husband, Carrol, of Clifton Forge; three sons, J.C.
