Gordon Frank Edwards, 55, of Covington, died January 25, 2021 in Covington. He was born February 23, 1965, in Covington, a son of Russell and Wanda Edwards. Mr. Edwards was employed with Hammond and Mitchell as an equipment operator. In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time with his family and restoring classic vehicles. In addition to his parents, he is survived by two sons, Rubin Garza and Cory Edwards, both of Covington; two sisters, Debbie Kidd and her fianc J.B. Harlow, and Tina Edwards, all of Covington; three nephews, David Easton Jr. and Aubri Workman, Daniel and Tonya Easton, and Jake Horne, all of Covington. A private graveside service will be held with Rev. Steve Noel officiating. The interment will be made in Alleghany Memorial Park....

Joseph Daniel "Danny" Ryder 61, of 301 Wager Lane, died, Monday January 25, 2021 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Mr. Ryder was born February 3, 1959 in Bath County a son of Nancy Beverage Ryder of Hot Springs and the late Joseph "Joe" Ryder. Danny worked in the Maintenance Department at WestRock. He was attending Faith Baptist Church. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to boat. He was a member of the Wagon Wheel and Warm Springs Mountain Hunting Clubs. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He never met a stranger and to say you knew him was to say you loved him. Lewis Rufus McAllister, 79, of 7306 Dunlap Creek Road died Sunday, January 24, 2021, at his home. Mr. McAllister was born February 8, 1941, in Alleghany County a son of the late Cecil Rufus McAllister and Marie Brackman McAllister. He had retired as an operator after 41 years with the former Hercules, Inc. He was a longtime member of the Moss Run Baptist Church where he had served as a Deacon, Usher and Trustee. He was proud to be a farmer and enjoyed his grandchildren and their sports and scouting activities and hunting. David Bengil Wickline, Age 62 of Covington, VA went to be with his Heavenly Father on January 22, 2021. He was born in Monroe County, WV on August 28th, 1958 the son of the late Florence Isabelle Schumaker and step-father Ben T. Schumaker; his biological father Joe B. Wickline. David was a retired employee of Alleghany County Public Works as an equipment operator for 35 years. Heavy equipment was his forte. He was an avid hunter especially bear hunting. His love for the outdoors was his most joy, along with hunting with his pride and joy , grandsons Carter and Maddox and his many hunting buddies. Roger Wayne Ogden, 74, of 2205 Dressler Drive, died, Saturday, January 16, 2021, at Lewis Gale-Alleghany Hospital in Low Moor. Mr. Ogden was born April 9, 1946, in Covington, a son of the late Howard Raymond Ogden, Sr. and Hazel Stinnett Ogden. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Howard R. "Bill" Ogden, Jr.; one sister, Pauline Claytor; and a niece, Denise Gravely, nephew, Richard Claytor and a nephew-in-law, Steve Hoke. Wayne was a veteran of the Vietnam War holding the rank of Sergeant in the U.S. Army while serving in Germany and Greece. He attended North Carolina State University and graduated from VWCC and Virginia Tech while achieving his bachelor's and master's degree. Emma was the daughter of Quintin Walker Jr. and Melissa J. Meadows of Clifton Forge. In addition to her parents, she was survived by five siblings; Stephanie Walker, Destiny Walker, Elektra Walker, Michael Walker, and Xander Hosey all of Covington, Maternal Grandmother Stephanie Tucker and Bruce Green and Maternal Grandfather Ernest Meadows Jr. all of Covington, Paternal Grandmother Tammy Mace and husband Ray of Covington, Paternal Grandfather Quintin Walker Sr. and wife Kelly of Clifton Forge, Maternal Great Grandmother Edith Burkitt of Lexington, and Maternal Great Grandfather Ernest Meadows Sr. and wife Wilma of Tabor City, NC and a number of aunts and cousins. Bernard Reed Bowling 80, of 3008 Valley Ridge Road, passed away Sunday,, January 10. 2021, at Stone Spring Hospital in Dulles, Va. Mr. Bowling was January 13, 1940, in Alleghany Count son of late Jesse Reed Bowling and Ella Johnson Bowling. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, John Martin, Jr., Gerald Bowling and James Bowling and one sister, Barbara Bowling Jett. Bernard served in United States Army, and had retired from Hercules Inc. He was avid hunter and golfer and loved being around his friends, but health issues had kept him from that for quite a few years. Surviving are his Wife, Joy Sheppard Bowling, of Covington; a Son, Jesse A.
