December 29, 2020
Keith Cordell (Seaweed) Laws, age 60 passed away December 29, 2020, at his residence. Keith was born September 7, 1960 to his parents Kenneth J. and Betty Laws, Sr. He was the eldest of nine children and the tallest as well (6'9"). He was proceeded in death by, Kenneth and Shirley Laws Sr., brother, Kenneth (Buster) Laws Jr., grandparents, James and Bernice Cosby, Elmore and Virginia Laws Sr., Aunt Shirley Smith, Brother-N-Law, Jeffery (PeeWee) Davis, and two grandsons, Jacob Bryant and Ki-ari Wright.
Keith was a 1978 graduate of Eastern Senior High School in Washington, D.C., where he played basketball. Keith was employed in Washington, D.C. as a Maintenance Engineer for two separate apartment complexes.
Keith was a member of Pine Street Baptist Church, he loved to sing and give God his praise. With his baritone voice, you could hear him singing often while sitting on his porch and also along with any song that was being played. He would sing a song called "Cool Inside" to his grandchildren and he would have them chime in with him as he sung.
Keith often talked about his faith in God. He believed as long as you kept your faith in God you would survive. He let his children and grandchildren know they could talk to him about anything. He made them feel welcome and they enjoyed his company. Keith helped them with their shyness and encouraged them to be themselves, to be bold, and to love who they are.
Keith, was a gentle giant with a BIG HEART and when he entered the room he would bring the light of joy with him by singing, dancing, and telling jokes. His main thing was to keep people happy. He always thought of others before himself. Keith was an avid lover of dogs and sports especially The Washington (Redskins) Football Team.
After moving to Covington, he worked several jobs until retiring due to health issues. He was a gardener and loved to help others with painting, light construction, and lawn care. He will be remembered for riding around town on his lawn mower which he (jokingly) considered his car. As he passed by, he would honk his horn and wave to all whom seen him.
Left to cherish, Keith's memory are his daughters, Katia (Frank) Bryant, Tanyell Hunter, Janis (Janelle) Clark, grandchildren, Sadrionne Mack, Elijah and Myianna Bryant, Taylin Nelson, and Maijor Wright, William Jr. and Caiden Johnson, mother Betty Laws, siblings, Damita Moore, Trace Smith, Gladys Laws, Rozeta Davis, Nicole (Porter) Turner, Kenneth (Puffy) Allen, Bessie Laws.
