Teresa ‘Teri’ Smith Markham, age 65, of 2027 S. York Ave, Covington, died December 14, 2023, at the Lewis Gale Medical Center.


Teri was born July 30, 1958, in Alleghany County, and was preceded in death by her parents the late Aaron E. Smith and JoAnn Grady Smith; a brother, Henry Noel; father-in-law and mother-in-law Roy Markham,Sr. Annalee Markham and stepbrother, Gary Frame.


Surviving is her husband for 49 years, Roy Markham of Covington; a daughter, Candace (Chris) Hoke of Covington; a son, Shane Markham and LeeAnn Wright of Covington; four grandchildren, Skyler Markham and Emma ‘Dakota’ Markham of Covington, Dylan and Liliana Hoke all of Covington; three sisters, Georgia Miller of Conyers, Georgia, Michelle (Jose) Ortiz of Jacksonville, Florida;  Lisa (Allen) Stallings, Moyock of North Carolina; two stepbrothers, Bruce and Wesley Smith of Covington; two sisters-in-law, Julie Frame of Chester, VA. and Susan Robertson of Covington; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; and three fur babies, Lizzie, Moon Pie and Toby.


Teresa graduated from Covington High School in 1976 and attended Dabney S. Lancaster College. She was a retired member of the Covington Rescue Squad and a member of the Covington Fire and Rescue Ladies Auxiliary.   She was employed as a sewing machine operator at MDM, Inc., Halmode, Inc. and Bacova Guild and was employed as a registrar in the Emergency Department at the Lewis Gale Alleghany Hospital in Low Moor. Teri, as she was affectionally called, was a former cheerleader coach of the Edgemont Southside Stallions. She loved reading, being with family, especially her grandchildren and traveling to Tennessee.


A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at 12 noon in the Arritt Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Warren officiating.


The family will receive friends, Monday, December 18, 2023, in the Arritt Funeral Home Chapel from 6:00 P.M. to 7:30 P.M.


Following the service, interment will be at the Cedar Hill Cemetery.


In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be sent to the American Cancer Society, 1700 Malcorkie Avenue, S.E., 3rd Floor, Charleston, WV, 23714 or the Alleghany Humane Society, P.O. Box 60, Low Moor, VA. 24457.


Arritt Funeral Home have been entrusted with the service arrangements.
