Christopher Robinson Essex, age 48, passed away peacefully and received his eternal reward on the evening of Monday, June 26, 2023, at his residence in Warm Springs, after his hard fight against cancer. Chris was born on September 19, 1974, in Portsmouth, Virginia to Darlene Scales Essex and to the late Donald G. Essex.

Chris married his wife, Carlisa Crawford Essex, in 1994 and five children were born from that union. After graduating from Bath County High School, Chris joined the US Army as an enlisted soldier beginning in 1994 then later became a Chief Warrant Officer in the Ammunition Field. He is a veteran of both wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and served during numerous other military campaigns. He is the recipient of several Army Commendation Medals, Army Achievement Medals and the Good Conduct Medal. He earned the Meritorious Service Medal and has been awarded the Bronze Star twice during his military career. Chris retired in 2014 after serving his country for 20 years.

Chris was a devoted husband and father, who enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, family and friends. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, skiing, playing and coaching football. After his military retirement Chris and his family relocated back to Bath County, where he became a member of Life Line Ministries where he loved volunteering and being involved in many church activities.

Chris is preceded in death by his father, Donald Essex and his grandparents. He leaves behind his wife of 28 years, Carlisa, and his children, Rachel Holman and her husband Mark Holman,Jr., Dominique Essex, Kennedi Essex, Adrianna Essex, Elin Essex, and his grandson, Mark, III. His brothers, Benjamin Essex and Eric Essex and his sister-in-law Virginia Stewart. As well as numerous Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Nephews, Nieces, In-laws and his best military buddy, Marcus Gwinn.

Chris will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him but will always hold a special place in our hearts. We would love for you to come and celebrate his life at Life Line Ministries in Hot Springs, VA on Saturday, July 8, 2022, at 2pm where Pastor Zach Royer will officiate. Immediately following the service, the family will receive family and visitors at the church gym.
