Betty Bates McDaniel Harvey, 91 of Snake Run Road, Covington, VA passed to eternal life in Christ, on Thursday, January 28, 2021 at UVA Hospital in Charlottesville following a fall at her home. Betty was born on Dec. 29, 1929 in Covington, Virginia to Cecil A. and Bamma Masters Bates. In addition to her parents, Betty was predeceased by her six brothers, her first husband William Ernest McDaniel, daughters Sandra Gale McDaniel and Shirley McDaniel Canterbury, son Kenneth Leon McDaniel, and granddaughter Amy Louise McDaniel. Betty was also predeceased by her second husband William Mann, who met and married Betty when she was a young widow raising five small children. Betty is survived by her husband Arnold Harvey, her two sons Don McDaniel (Liz) and Lee McDaniel (Kate), son-in-law Larry Canterbury, step son Lincoln Harvey (Lynn), six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Betty was beloved by her large family and many friends and neighbors. She was a woman of quiet dignity, kind nature and deep faith. She was a member of Dunlap Christian Church, where she sang in the choir for many years. Her family is so thankful for the many wonderful memories they have of her and will cherish them forever. Arritt Funeral Home is handling arrangements. A private burial is planned because of COVID restrictions. The family plans to hold a celebration of Betty's life at a later time.
