Buell Wilson Fitzgerald, 91, died Monday, May 4, 2009 at the Brian Center in Low Moor. He was born November 29, 1917 in Nelson County, a son of the late Herby W. Fitzgerald, Sr. and Lottie Pearl Bradley Fitzgerald. Mr. Fitzgerald was one of the three of the first Life Guards for the Covington Municipal Pool. He was a member of the graduating Class of 1937. He attended the Morris Hill College in North Carolina and Kings College in Tennessee on Football Scholarships. He served with the Army Air Corps during World War II was a retired insurance agent in the Staunton area for many years. Mr. Fitzgerald was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church in Staunton and was a avid golfer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie Fitzgerald and also by two brothers, Lemuel W. Fitzgerald and Herby W. Fitzgerald, Jr. Surviving are his two brothers, William W. Fitzgerald and his wife Lawanda ; Warren R. Fitzgerald and Ernest Fitzgerald and his wife Helen Jean all of Covington; his sister, Peggy Johnson and her husband Cecil of Salem and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be Wednesday evening at 6:00 PM in the Arritt Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Barry Thockmorton officiating. The interment will be made at Augusta Memorial Park in Fishersville at 11:00 AM Thursday May 7, 2009. Friends may pay their respects anytime at Arritt Funeral Home. The family will receive their friends Wednesday evening following the funeral service.
