Delmar Bertrand Baker, 84, of 1315 N. Hillcrest Drive, died, Thursday morning,, May 22, 2008 at Alleghany Regional Hospital in Low Moor. He was born may 15, 1924 at Paint Bank, a son of the late Ohmar C. and Lizzie Mable Smith Baker. Mr. Baker served with the United States Air Force during World War II. He retired in 1986 from the former Hercules, Inc. as a machine operator after 17 years of service. He was a member of Mount Carmel United Methodist Church and the Curtis A. Smith Post 1033, Veterans of Foreign Wars. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Joyce Plott Baker inJuly 2007; a son, Charles Baker in December 2007 and also by three brothers Parker Baker, Munford Baker and Henry Baker. Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Beverly Baker of Covington; five daughters and sons - in-law, Carol and Mitchell Andrews of Covington; Berta and Gus Henning of Roanoke; Becky and Dave Mann of Clifton Forge; Susan and Billy Rock of Covington and Sandy and Dan Hernandez of Vinton; a daughter-in-law, Leniese Baker of Covington; 18 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren and one great great gramdchild'; one brother, James and Ann Baker of Covington; two sisters, Jessie Ruth Witlock of Salem and Shirley Burks of Clifton Forge and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Saturday in the Arritt Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Doug Hollenbeck officiating. The interment will follow in the Paint Bank Community Cemetery with graveside rites being conducted by the Curtis A. Smith Post 1033, Veterans of Foreign Wars. Active pallbearers will be Gene lee, Dennis Trainer, Skipper Wright, Kenny Lane, Paul Dressler, Richard "Micky" Bowyer; Allen Dressler and David Black Friends may pay their respects anytime at Arritt Funeral Home. The family will receive their friends Friday evening from 7:00 until 8:30 PM at Arritt Funeral Home. The family suggest that memorial donations in Mr. Bakers' name may be made to : Mount Carmel United Methodist Church , 1200 N. Alleghany Ave, Covington, VA 24426
