Michael Edward Switzer, 78, of Covington, died Wednesday, August 9, 2023.

Mr. Switzer was born May 3, 1945, in Alleghany County, a son of the late Milton and Annie Persinger Switzer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Betty Bogar, Annabell Simmons, and Naomi Taylor; a grandson, Markie Smith, Jr.; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Switzer was a self-employed logger for many years.

Surviving are his children, Lisa Smith (Cris Walton) and Shirley Switzer (Chad Drummond) all of Low Moor, Betsy (Bruce) Evenson of Front Royal, Carol (David) Young of Covington, Karen (Tony) Wood of Salem, Michael Switzer of Roanoke, and Amanda Lowe of Brookfield, CT; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; six grand “fur babies”; two sisters, Ruby (Rocky) Bell of Summerville, SC, and Bonnie Stallings of Vinton; one brother, Johnny Switzer of Covington; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held Monday, August 14, 2023, at 1:00 PM in the chapel of Arritt Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Tremblay officiating.

The family will receive their friends from noon until service time at the funeral home.

Interment will be made in Lone Star Cemetery.
